A recent and delightful addition to SCL’s volunteer family, Laurie is an inspiration and a positive force to be reckoned with! Laurie’s full life includes being a student at Concord Career College, yet she still finds time to donate her services to SCL. In June, Laurie graduates as a dental hygienist!
“I started volunteering for SCL after Gracie (Director of Volunteer Services) introduced this wonderful program to our dental hygiene students. I joined my daughter (one of my fellow students), who volunteers as well. It’s a great place to volunteer because staff members are terrific and every task directly helps countless kids, “shares Laurie.
Laurie’s lifetime goals describe her perfectly:
“First and foremost, my greatest goal is to bring joy and good to my family and to others. Dental hygiene is a career I’ve wanted to pursue since I was a teenager, and I’m delighted that I finally am working on that goal. It seems strange to be in my 50’s and going to DH school. My only regret is that I should have done it years ago! I was born and raised in Colorado, married a military man and traveled the world for 24 years. Because we lived in a lot of places and moved often, I was able to stay home and raise our two children while working part time as a substitute teacher. I currently work for Weight Watchers while going to school. To anyone interested in volunteering at SCL, I say DO IT! Your efforts will not only make a difference in the lives of children, but in your own life as well!”
