Each week, Smiles Change Lives recognizes the work of one orthodontic provider, a team of providers or an orthodontic practice, that goes above and beyond the call of duty to support SCL's mission of bringing improved self esteem and healthy, happy smiles to the faces of children in need.

Dr. Gregory Oppenhuizen - Holland, MI

Congratulations to Dr. Gregory Oppenhuizen of Oppenhuizen Orthodontics in Holland, Michigan on being SCL's Orthodontic Provider of the Week. We thank Dr. Oppenhuizen for his generosity, dedication and outstanding service to our SCL program participants!

Dr. Oppenhuizen has been an SCL provider since 2011, screening and treating the grateful, deserving SCL children in his community. We are very grateful to have Dr. Oppenhuizen & the amazing team of Oppenhuizen Orthodontics as part of the SCL team! Congratulations Dr. Oppenhuizen!!

About Dr. Oppenhuizen:
“Dr. Oppenhuizen has practiced orthodontics in the Holland area since 1985. “While academically gifted, scientifically knowledgeable, and technically strong, Dr Oppenhuizen brings a unique background and interest in the arts to his practice of orthodontics; a perspective that makes Dr Oppenhuizen distinctive.”

Dr. Oppenhuizen believes that it is important to give back to his profession and the community and has served industry organizations in many capacities over the years. “Dr. Oppenhuizen is a Diplomate of The American Board of Orthodontics. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Diplomate status is achieved by rigorous testing and it is the standard of achievement in the specialty afforded to less than half of all orthodontists. To be invited into the other honor societies is a distinction awarded to less than 3% of all dentists in the United States. Dr. Oppenhuizen earned this distinction by nomination of his peers for his work in the dental and orthodontic associations and in community involvement.”
 
Dr Oppenhuizen has served as Editor for the Michigan Association of Orthodontists and is the author of several articles that have appeared in the publication.

In his free time, Dr. Oppenhuizen is an avid swimmer, scuba diver and underwater photographer, as well as an avid gardener.

SCL is extremely grateful to Dr. Oppenhuizen for being an SCL provider and for all that he and his staff are doing to improve the self-esteem and quality of life for the children in their community.
