Every nonprofit should be as fortunate to have a volunteer like Joyce McKenzie! Since July 2011, Joyce has assisted SCL staff with a multitude of projects. Always up to the task, Joyce has completed over 450 hours of service moving mountains of mail and entering miles of data entry. Her valuable time continues to play a major role helping SCL move forward bracing kids, generating referrals and recruiting orthodontists.
What fills your time when you're not volunteering? I love to read, cook, travel, bike, ski, but most of all spending time with my family.
How would you describe your volunteer experience with SCL? As a retired elementary school teacher I wanted to fill the extra time on my hands with something worthwhile. I enjoy the office setting, learning new things and being surrounded by very nice people supporting me. The projects given to me are unlike anything I did while teaching and I'm enjoying the change. My favorite thing is knowing that I'm making a difference in children's lives. There is no better feeling in the world!
